Hey there! Ready for a wild ride through some of the NOT-so-magical moments at Disney parks? Yep, behind all the fairy dust and fun, real-life stories happen that are a bit spooky and super surprising. Let’s jump in!

Bogden Delaurot - The Swim That Went Splashy-Washy Wrong
So, back in 1973, two brothers - Bogden (18) and Dorian (10) - decided to play hide and seek on Tom Sawyer’s Island after hours. When they got tired of hiding, they hatched a bold plan: swim across the Rivers of America to escape without getting caught. One tiny hiccup though - Dorian couldn’t swim. No big deal, they thought he could just hang onto Bogden’s back. Spoiler alert: halfway through the swim, Dorian slipped, vanished under the water, and, sadly, never made it back.
Bonnye Mavis Lear - The Golf Cart That Went Rogue
Picture this: a regular day at the park’s fancy Club 33 in 2024, and suddenly - Bonnye hops onto a dodgy golf cart. When the cart hits a bump, things get wild. She tries to grab the railing, it breaks, and BAM! She gets thrown and suffers life-changing head injuries. Sadly, this mishap ended her story. Oh, and rumor has it, Disney wasn’t too keen on spilling the beans on this one.
Mel Yorba - When Jealousy Got Literally Sharp
Back in ’81, young Mel was just hanging near Disneyland’s Matterhorn when a jealous boyfriend thought it was a great idea to turn a disagreement into a stabbing scene. Mel ended up with a knife through his heart, and park staff, worried about keeping things pretty, didn’t call 911 right away. They took him on a slow ride to the hospital past two facilities that could’ve helped sooner. Bad call, Disney. Real bad.
Marcelo Torres - Rollercoaster Ride Turns Into Nightmare
In 2003, someone’s super fun day on Big Thunder Mountain suddenly got scary when the rollercoaster partially derailed. Poor 22-year-old Marcelo was riding just behind the engine when things went south. Cars separated, folks got hurt big time, and sadly, Marcelo lost his life. Turns out, maintenance was rushed and not quite up to snuff. Yikes.
Lane Graves - The Alligator That Said ‘Nope’
Little two-year-old Lane was just playing in some shallow water near the Grand Floridian in 2016 when an alligator thought he looked tasty. Dad jumped in to fight Mr. Gator off, but the gator scooped Lane away underwater. The internet exploded afterward, especially since there were signs saying, 'Don’t swim here!' Yep, Disney fished out a handful of gators after that, but the shockwaves are still felt.
Luan Phi Dawson - That Flying Piece of Metal…ouch
Christmas Eve, 1998. Luan Phi Dawson’s day took a terrible turn while waiting to board a replica sailing ship. Out of nowhere, a cleat (that’s a metal thingy for tying ropes) got ripped off and smacked him on the head. Sadly, it caused fatal brain injuries. His wife got hurt too, and another worker caught the brunt in her leg. Police later looked into it as a possible homicide. Yep, not your usual Disney scene.
Robert Johnson Jr - The Creepiest Amoeba Attack Ever
Young Robert was having a blast swimming at Disney’s River Country spot when a tiny amoeba took a detour into his nose, then straight up to his brain. The results? Not good. Doctors called it meningoencephalitis, and Robert sadly passed away. His family won a lawsuit, and the infamous water park eventually closed for good. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that cause the biggest trouble.
Woman in Her 60s - Haunted Mansion’s Final Ride
It was a normal day at Disneyland in 2014 until a woman in her 60s finished the Haunted Mansion ride and suddenly went unresponsive. Park staff tried CPR, but she sadly didn’t make it. The ride reopened shortly after, and officials said there were no problems with the attraction. Spooky? Maybe. Sad? Definitely.
