The whole thing started in 2015 when college student Matt Nelson decided to have some fun. He thought, “Why not rate dogs?” and bam, a viral sensation was born.
Matt said it was the perfect mix of passion and pure fun, and people instantly loved it.
People loved it so much they started sending pics of their own good pups. Matt would rate them with scores always above 10 (because duh) and sprinkle in hilarious captions.
We Rate Dogs turned into a full-on brand with millions of fans all over the internet.
In a bold move, Matt dropped out of college (golf management, no less!) to focus full-time on adorable doggos. Wise move, honestly.
He wanted to spend his time doing what he loved most: celebrating dogs.
At first, Matt handled everything solo, scrolling through thousands of dog pics every single day. That’s a LOT of puppies to rate.
He said picking favorites was nearly impossible because, well, every dog is the best dog.
Eventually, Matt built a team to help him spread the puppy joy. They even started a nonprofit called the 15/10 Foundation to help dogs who need extra medical or behavioral support.
It’s not just about likes anymore - it’s about saving lives.
One pup they helped was Gordough, who had some serious health issues and was left outside a shelter.
The foundation paid for Gordough’s medical bills so he could get a new shot at life.
Thanks to all this help, shelters are now more confident taking in dogs with special needs, knowing someone has their back.
