Alvin Juano started The Square Comics in 2014 when life was feeling pretty rough. He almost got kicked out of school and needed a way to crack a smile. Drawing simple, funny comics was the answer. Soon enough, people everywhere loved his twisty, dark humor that’s weirdly relatable.
Where does he get these ideas? A little from his own messy life and a lot from watching people do their thing. He catches everyday weirdness - like how a dog stays happy even when their human’s sick. It’s like a mini therapy session with laughs built in.
Simplicity is the name of the game. Alvin’s doodles are minimal because he started drawing fast to keep up with teachers. Plus, the simple shapes make the punchlines pop, which is perfect for quick, funny comics.
Alvin’s comic-making style? A dash of routine mixed with random brainstorms just before bed. He jots down ideas and tests them out on friends (who sometimes don’t get it, but he posts anyway because funny is funny). Basically, inspiration sneaks up even when adulting tries to get in the way.
