Turns out, the jokes hit home pretty well. Around 31% of public school kids are behind in their grades, which means teachers have their hands full.
Good news though! Schools that bring in extra teachers for one-on-one help say it really works to catch kids up.
Attendance? Not so great. Students sometimes stay home for things that aren’t really serious, but schools are trying all sorts of fun rewards to get them back in class.
And yep, substitute teachers are still a hot commodity, with about half the schools saying finding coverage is about the same challenge as before.
Mental health is a biggie too. More teachers are feeling stressed or down, but only some schools have mental health support ready.
Also, filling teacher jobs is no walk in the park because there just aren’t enough good candidates knocking on the door.
Stress alert! Over half of teachers say their job stresses them out a ton - way more than most other workers.
Burnout is real, and about 60% of teachers say they feel it. Yikes.
Working 53 hours a week on average also doesn’t help, especially when the pay is lower than other jobs that take similar effort.
Teachers want more cash, and honestly, who wouldn’t after all they do?
Even with all that, only about 1 in 5 teachers want to quit right now, which says a lot about how dedicated they are.
So, next time you see your teacher, maybe give them a little extra thanks. They’ve earned it!
