Valtteri Mulkahainen, "Smile, You're Being Photographed"
This one-year-old bear cub totally nailed the art of posing with a big cheesy smile. Guess he’s used to the camera by now!
Alison Tuck, "Now Which Direction Is My Nest?"
A gusty day at Bempton Cliffs led to this confused little bird pup wondering, “Wait, where’s my nest again?” Classic.
Stefan Cruysberghs, "Squirrel Airborne: Surrender Mode"
In a now-defunct forest home to cheeky red squirrels, I chased squirrels mid-jump. Most pics were blurry, but this one’s gold: a flying squirrel throwing its arms wide like it's waving the white flag midair - pure surrender!
This year's Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards finalists include 40 solo images, 3 portfolios, and 10 videos. The competition got a whopping 10,000 entries from 108 countries! Talk about a global laugh fest.
The grand prize? A one-week safari in the Masai Mara, plus some seriously cool Nikon cameras and gear. And yep, there’s photography backpacks too. Sweet!
Mark Meth-Cohn, "High Five"
On a rainy Rwanda day, we found a gorilla family playing in the misty mountains. This young male was showing off his dance moves - pirouetting and kicking like a pro. Total gorilla high-five moment!
Erkko Badermann, "Landing Gears Down"
After sticking it out on a freezing lakeside with snowfall, I caught this Red-throated Loon landing with textbook precision - like it took flying lessons! Usually clumsy, but not today. It’s basically the duck version of ‘smooth operator.’
Henry Szwinto, "Peek A Boo"
A Sri Lankan Elephant playing peek-a-boo using his huge ears as the perfect hiding spot. Sneaky pachyderm!
The Awards started back in 2015, dreamed up by two wildlife photographers who wanted to mix top-notch nature shots with belly laughs. The best part? Each year they support a charity protecting our wild pals. This time they’re teaming up with the UK’s Whitley Fund for Nature to help conservation heroes in the Global South. 10% of the event’s profits go to them. Feel good and giggle - perfect combo!
Christy Grinton, "Bad Hair Day!"
Caught a grey squirrel with her tail covering her head like she just forgot to dry her hair before stepping outside. Totally relatable "oops" moment - can’t knock the style though!
Grayson Bell, "Baptism Of The Unwilling Convert"
Spotted two male frogs duking it out for turf by a pond. This shot looks like one frog is baptizing the other against his will. Party foul, little buddy!
David Rice, "Omg He's At It Again!"
Red-Crowned Cranes being their wild, goofy selves in the morning. These guys sure know how to put on a show!
These pics are 100% real - promise! No AI tricks or Photoshop magic, just authentic wild moments frozen in time. The big winners will be announced December 9 in London, and then all the finalists’ photos will be on display at Gallery@Oxo until December 14. Fancy seeing these hilarious snapshots in person? Now you know when!
A panel of pros, including TV presenter Kate Humble and comedian Hugh Dennis, are busy picking their faves. That’s one star-studded judging squad right there.
John Speirs, "It Is Tough Being A Duck"
On a dull day, this duck caught a sudden spotlight and looked like it just checked into vacation mode. Quack, beach, repeat!
Warren Price, "Headlock"
These guillemots live in tight quarters and aren’t the best neighbors. Got this shot of one with its head caught in a neighbor’s beak. Sometimes you just wanna bite someone’s head off - literally!
Geoff Martin, "Hornbill In A Hurry"
While trying to shoot vultures, a panic-stricken hornbill photobombed me, scared by a quick-approaching hawk. It looks like a bird in full-on freak-out mode. Don’t worry, it escaped in one piece!
“We’re stoked to share these awesome finalists showing off the world’s best funny wildlife shots,” said Stefan from Nikon Europe. The co-founder added, “Our partnership with Nikon helped us reach more folks worldwide and spread the word about why animals and their homes matter. These photos make us laugh and care at the same time. Can’t wait to reveal the winners!”
Paula Rustemeier, "Hit The Dance Floor!"
At the start of my wildlife photography journey, I hung out with playful fox cubs in a nature reserve. These guys had dance battles at dawn - think breakdancing meets the wild. Trust me, watching foxes play is basically pure comedy gold!
Bingqian Gao, "What Do You Mean I Need To See A Dentist?"
Spotted this porcupinefish with its mouth wide open underwater, like it’s forever shocked and on its way to the dentist. Algae growing inside just adds to its ‘Oh no!’ face. Signed, your friendly neighborhood underwater dentist!
Meline Ellwanger, "The Choir"
Caught three lions yawning together like they’re auditioning for a choir. Nature’s biggest sleepyheads belting out the nap song!
The contest has all sorts of categories, like mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and even vids. Young photographers and internet portfolios get some love too. And you get to vote for your fave starting December 10 through March 1, 2026. People’s Choice winner gets announced March 12. Ready to cast your vote?
Andrey Giljov, "Welcome To Zen Lemur Yoga Course!"
Instructor lemur strikes an epic yoga pose reaching for enlightenment, while student lemur looks like it’s thinking, ‘Is this really worth the effort before breakfast?’ Flexibility optional; drama required.
Diana Rebman, "Relaxing In The Trees!"
This Yellow-cheeked Gibbon was chilling in the trees, totally relaxed. My guess? He’s waiting on the park’s fastest beer delivery.
Magnus Berggren, "Masquerading As An Arrow"
I went looking for eagles but got photobombed by a black woodpecker zooming past like an arrow shot through the sky. Wings tucked in, straight as a dart, pure speed illusion. Lucky shot!

Michael Stavrakakis, "Paint Me Like One Of Your Forest Girls"
Meet Sandra, Borneo’s oldest known orangutan. She used to live in captivity but is now living her best wild life. She’s got quirky charm and settled into being a total star, posing like she’s in a forest fashion show.
David Fettes, "Great Hair Day"
This Amazonian Umbrellabird in Brazil was having a rough patch - looking all bedraggled and unable to fly. Its feather ‘hair’ can spike up or flop forward for laughs. This pose? Definitely a ‘bad hair day.’ Hope it got better!
Massimo Felici, " Darling, Please Stop!"
On a Serengeti safari, this lion couple’s lovey-dovey moment got rained on - literally. They were shaking off the rain like it was the ultimate buzzkill. But hey, the impressive mane won out in the charm battle!
Bret Saalwaechter, "I Just Can't Wait To Be King"
In Tanzania’s Serengeti, lion cubs were desperately trying to get some milk while mom tried to escape. Cue adorable ‘I just can’t wait to be king’ drama with cubs chasing mom all over a rocky outcrop. Family chaos level: expert.
Miles Astray, "Flamingone"
Here’s a ‘flamingone’ - a flamingo doing that head-under-wing routine that makes it look like it's headless. It’s a real photo, not AI magic, reminding us that nature’s awkwardness beats any computer-generated weirdness.
Liliana Luca, "Fonzies Advertising"
After tourists left Madagascar’s Nosy Komba, a crowned sifaka struck a pose, licking its hand mid-gesture like it’s in an ad for finger-licking snacks. Nature’s got jokes - and timing!
Lars Beygang, "Outdoor Smoking Zone"
A mallard duck puffing out its breath so dramatically on a cold morning, it looked like it stepped out for a quick smoke break. Nature's own ‘outdoor smoking zone’ moment.
Annette Kirby, "Go Away"
In chilly Japan, a massive Steller’s Sea Eagle gave a serious ‘Back off!’ glare while guarding its fish from nosy birds. No freebies here, folks!
Jessica Emmett, "Battle Hug"
In a Singapore park, two monitor lizards looked like they were hugging it out, but actually it was an epic slow battle. Spoiler: it ended with a surprise third-party tail whip. Drama in the reptile world!
Andrew Mortimer, "The Shoulders Of Giants"
Found a frog colony living in a borehole on a minesite. They can’t see over the edges, so they just balance on each other’s shoulders. Literally standing tall to see the world!
Ralph Robinson, "Pied Piper Of Penguins"
In the Falklands, I spent a day belly-down in the sand watching 2000 king penguins strutting their stuff. Nearby, sheep followed, making it look like the penguins were leading a parade. Long live the kings!
Antoine Rezer, "Territorial Defence Operation"
Spotted a white-tailed eagle bossing around gyrfalcons in Iceland. But then a cheeky seagull got in on the action by bombing the eagle - talk about motivation beating size!
Michael Lane, "Steller Eagles Practice Kung Fu Tango"
Caught a pair of huge Steller’s eagles on icy Hokkaido doing what looks like a kung fu tango over a fish. One was kicking, they both lifted wings like they practiced a dance routine. Eagle drama, but make it fancy.
Jenny Stock, "Smiler"
While scuba diving in the Philippines, this tiny bluestriped fangblenny peeked out with a cheeky little smile. It looks friendly but beware: its bite is venomous! Small but mighty and smiling.
Mark Meth-Cohn, " Aaaaaww Mum!"
In rainy Rwanda, a soaked gorilla mom proudly cuddled her baby - who was clearly less into the affection. The world’s grumpiest cutie caught mid ‘Aaaaaww Mum!’ moment.
Beate Ammer, "The Frog Prince Of The Grape Vine"
Meet the Frog Prince of the garden! Hanging out on the grapevine, waiting for his royal kiss - or maybe just the grapes. He’s clearly king of his little orchard kingdom.
Chris Stanley, "All Smiles"
Check out this Flame Skimmer Dragonfly flashing a big grin while perched on an Aloe Vera stalk - didn’t even have to travel far, just my backyard supplied all the smiles!
Hikkaduwa Liyanage Prasantha Vinod, "Bad Mouthing"
Spotted two leopard siblings having a playful ‘bad mouthing’ spat on a boulder. These three cubs are the new coolest kids in town, and we took a 200km trip just to see their antics. Totally worth it!
Kalin Botev, " Monkey Circus"
On our honeymoon in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, we stumbled on a troop of baboons turning a tree into their personal circus. One sat still like the ringmaster while the others zipped around him, trying to catch him. Pure monkey mayhem for 15+ minutes!
Laurent Nilles, "Oh My!"
Spotted a young baboon staring up at an elephant like ‘Oh my, should I run or stay?’ Spoiler: it took the fast exit seconds later.
Yann Chauvette, "The Wig"
This Greater One-Horned Rhino went all out on its look - diving underwater and coming up with an aquatic ‘wig’ of plants on its head. Fancy and fabulous all in one.
Peter Reinold, "Stretch Your Leg"
Out for a chill Everglades road trip, I found this little guy casually stretching on a boardwalk. Didn’t mind the camera squat, gave me full-on sneaky model vibes. Brand new camera? Nailed it!
