So, here’s a wild one: Austin Bell spent years flying drones and snapping pics of every single basketball court in Hong Kong. Yup, all 2,549 of them! What started as a fun photo project in 2019 turned into this crazy deep dive into the city’s urban jungle, showing courts tucked in between skyscrapers like hidden gems. Fast forward to 2025, and Austin’s got a whole photobook packed with these colorful courts, plus prints and ongoing shoots worldwide.
Over about 140 days spread across four chilly winters, Austin used satellite maps and aerial shots to find and document courts everywhere. Sometimes he snapped over 100 courts in a day (seriously), and his personal high was an insane 475 courts in a single shoot. Turns out, these courts are the go-to playground spots for schools and neighborhoods, and they’re often decked out in bright, fun colors that stand out from high above.
And here’s the best part: from the sky, these courts look totally different - like concrete crop circles or funky abstract art scattered across the city.
