Debbie told us she got the idea from a childhood moment: waiting in a drab waiting room with a boring carpet, which totally fascinated her. She’d stare at the patterns and find hidden shapes. Little did she know, she was plotting to turn rugs into wild animals all along!
We asked why she’s so into mixing wild animals with cozy home stuff. She said the line between wild and home stuff is super blurry. History shows humans love sneaking nature into their spaces - from fancy furniture legs to patterned wallpaper. Debbie’s art is the modern version of that nature trickery.
When we asked about her favorite piece, Debbie pointed to a big eagle about to take flight. She said it’s like capturing a lightning bolt of energy just before lift-off - and a shoutout to the strong women in her family chasing their own dreams.
