Pew Research Center did a little homework on X users to find out why people hang out there. Guess what? Having fun is numero uno.

About 81% say they’re there for a good time, with 45% saying it’s a major reason.

Of course, many also pop in for news (65%) and geek out with fellow fans of their hobbies (62%).

Other fun reasons to jump on X include keeping tabs on sports or the latest pop culture buzz (59%), politics (59%), staying in touch with family and friends (33%), and checking product reviews (29%).

Even though lots of users see political posts, only 14% share political stuff themselves.

For those who post but avoid politics, reasons include:

1. Half think it won’t change anything (29% say that’s a big reason).
2. About 40% want to dodge hate or just don’t care about politics.
3. A third feel politics don’t belong on the platform.

People are split on whether X helps democracy - 38% say yes, 27% say no, and 34% say it doesn’t make a difference.

Good news: the positive vibes seem to be growing since last year’s survey, which was before the last big U.S. election.
