Curious about this goofy world of funny signs? We asked Baz Mattaz, Admin of Silly Signs on Facebook, how he ended up running this hilarious group. "One day, out of the blue, I got invited to admin some groups," Baz said. "One of them was Silly Signs - I had no clue where it came from, but I said why not!"
He started sharing funny signs from his place in Vietnam, home to some legendary typos, and the group quickly grew. Soon, it got so big he needed some helpers to keep it fun and spam-free!
Baz told us, "When Silly Signs hit about 50K members, it got pretty busy. Spammers showed up, so I asked for help and got some awesome moderators." Keeping the group focused is key, even if it means tossing out some funny-but-not-quite-sign posts.
Today, the group rocks over 155K members! Baz said, "It's a wild ride, but we stick to signs only. Sometimes it's tough to remove hilarious posts that aren’t actually signs. But rules are rules!"
Luckily, the group is pretty chill. "No fighting or drama here," Baz said. "We keep politics and religion out, even if they sneak in on signs. Staying silly is the name of the game." And hitting 100K members? Total high-five moment!
Baz also shared they don’t stress over duplicates too much. "Sometimes content comes back around because it’s just that funny. Fresh or repeat, as long as it’s a goofy sign, they let it slide!"
Lisa Childs Saunders, a moderator, said she jumped in when Baz needed backup. "I moderate a couple of groups and this one’s just too fun to pass up," she said. But she’s all about keeping the sign-party clean and on point.
Lisa agrees with Baz about deleting posts, "We’re strict about it being a sign. It keeps the group real and fun. People know when they check in, they won’t get off-topic spam."
She’s been to other 'sign' groups, and says, "Those get cluttered with politics, religion, and random videos. Not here – just silly signs and good vibes."
The mods shared some fave kooky signs: One sign said, "CROCODILES DO NOT SWIM HERE" - wait, so do crocs normally swim there? Another warned, "Do not feed hallucinogens to the alligators." And there’s a gem that read, "Red Squirrels Drive Slowly." Yep, you read that right!
